Juventus will face Inter Milan in a couple of weeks in a matchup that will set the tone for how ready the Bianconeri are to compete with the reigning Serie A champions for the Scudetto this season, having finished behind the Nerazzurri by more than 20 points last season.
The Bianconeri look like a much more dangerous team in 2024/25 under the rule of Thiago Motta, who is finally building a Juventus project around young standouts.
This winter, however, Juventus could go for a more experienced hand to boost the team in defense, as arguably the best center back in Serie A went down with a season-ending injury recently when Gleison Bremer tore his ACL in a nail-biting win over RB Leipzig in the Champions League.
Underrated Empoli star Ardian Ismajli is one of the top candidates to help the Serie A title contenders in the second half of the season by coming in and starting alongside breakout star Federico Gatti.
However, per a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Juventus are tracking an even bigger name at center back in former Inter Milan star Milan Skriniar, who was one of the biggest stars in the Italian top flight during his time with the Nerazzurri.
The 29-year-old is reportedly the top transfer target for the Bianconeri in the January 2025 transfer window out of everyone, and given how well he played in Italy for years, it’s not hard to see why.
Skriniar forced his way out of Inter in 2023 after drawn-out contract negotiations, and he joined PSG in order to make substantially more money. But Skriniar has struggled in Paris and has never settled in at a club that is, admittedly, difficult to settle into due to rampant organizational dysfunction.
Juventus are on the up-and-up, and Skriniar is a much better fit in Serie A, where he was an elite center back in every sense. The Bianconeri would love to get a dream upgrade like Skriniar, whose talent offsets concerns about age, wages, and recent form.
At the right price, Skriniar could be a great signing for Juve, and as Gazzetta notes, the player himself is eager to leave PSG after suffering more than a year of poor form and diminished playing time in Ligue 1.
