Chelsea are interested in signing Victor Osimhen to lead the way as their new striker, as it has been their biggest need in the squad over the past couple of seasons.
This past summer, Chelsea did sign Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal, and while he has largely frustrated with his inconsistent finishing, lately, the streaky young striker has shown signs that he could be a quality striker for the Blues in the future.
All the same, Chelsea still want to go for a more established name, and the 2022/23 Capocannoniere winner looks like the best striker available on the transfer market.
According to a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Chelsea are prepared to offer a contract to Napoli star Victor Osimhen worth 10 million euros net (not gross, so 10 million after taxes).
On top of that, Chelsea are indeed preparing an offer of 80 million euros plus striker Romelu Lukaku, currently on loan at AS Roma, in order to sign Osimhen. The Nigerian superstar has a 130 million euro release clause.
Lukaku’s overall transfer value to Napoli may only be worth 30-40 million euros, but Chelsea could easily sell him for significantly more than that to a club in Saudi Arabia.
So 80 million euros plus Lukaku could be fair for both sides. Lukaku isn’t having his finest season, but neither is Osimhen. Furthermore, Lukaku was the 2020/21 Serie A MVP when Inter Milan won the Scudetto.
Meanwhile, a 10 million euro contract for Osimhen is quite cheap, considering Osimhen is a 25-year-old who scored 26 goals in the league last season and has 14 this season in a down year. Chelsea would be fortunate to get him for that little in wages.
