The Edson Alvarez transfer news West Ham are itching to hear

West Ham have been a train wreck this season, somehow taking a sizable step backwards from where they were last season after they suffered through a putrid second half of the season, leading to the iconic David Moyes’s dismissal.

Moyes looks like a fallen angel compared to the torment West Ham have been through over the last few months, as the ill-advised Julen Lopetegui appointment has, as any faithful LaLiga observer could have predicted, blown up spectacularly in the faces of the Hammers’ decision-makers.

But Lopetegui is now out and Graham Potter is in, giving West Ham a clear upgrade at the manager position. Potter, after all, first orchestrated the rise of success that Brighton enjoy today.

Now, West Ham need to clean house and have a productive winter transfer window, and one of their least wanted players is center midfielder Edson Alvarez, who has been an outright flop since joining from Ajax as a promising defensive midfielder.

Alvarez has been an ill-disciplined, mistake-prone, and one-dimensional midfielder whose positives as a ball-winner are easily replaced and negatives as a passer are simply untenable for a club with aspirations of reaching the top seven in the Premier League.

With Fabrizio Romano reporting of a shock approach from a talent-laden Monaco side for the Mexican international, West Ham have to be sitting on the edge of their seats, hoping that they can finagle a permanent transfer to the Ligue 1 side for a lucrative fee.

Despite residing in one of the most upscale regions of Europe, Monaco are highly prudent on the transfer market and can be very selective because they have one of the finest footballing academies this world has to offer.

But Monaco aren’t averse to spending a cheeky 20-30 million euros on a player with some reputation and upside, and perhaps West Ham can get some great news from the south in the form of a nifty bid for the backup defensive midfielder.
