West Ham were one of the busiest teams in the Premier League during the summer 2024 transfer market, particularly from an attacking perspective with striker Niclas Fullkrug, veteran playmaker Carlos Soler, and young winger Crysencio Summerville all coming in.
With the exception of Summerville, the transfers haven’t worked out at all for West Ham, who are already likely to move on from Fullkrug at striker. And the Hammers are 14th in the Premier League table, having just axed manager Julen Lopetegui.
Graham Potter is the new captain of the ship, and, based on the early transfer rumors, there’s a sense that another big shakeup could be coming to the West Ham squad as they look to desperately avoid another relegation brush.
According to a report from Ex-WHU Employee, West Ham are among the teams putting out a feeler to Manchester United for the possibility of acquiring Marcus Rashford on loan this winter.
For their part, West Ham reportedly think Rashford will choose to leave England in order to revive his once-promising career, but, nonetheless, the Hammers are doing their due diligence with interest.
The key with any Rashford transfer is the question of wages. If Manchester United are willing to cover a substantial portion of the left winger’s wages, then a move doesn’t seem so silly or impossible.
Another issue to consider is positional. West Ham need an out-and-out striker, presumably to replace Fullkrug, but Rashford has never shown that he can play this position. He is a left winger, and the Hammers have better options in that role.
There’s nothing wrong with showing interest in Rashford, though. He has scored 17 goals in a Premier League season on two occasions and is a great technical talent who could easily blossom outside the toxicity of Old Trafford, with a six-month loan deal carrying absolutely no risk for a team that is already floundering in 14th.
