West Ham blew an early lead, falling 2-1 to Aston Villa in the third round of the FA Cup. Here are the player ratings.
GK Lukasz Fabianski, 6.0
In the end, could do nothing about either goal, as the first was struck away from him by an unsuspecting Tomas Soucek.
LB Ollie Scarles, 7.5
The young Scarles had eight combined tackles and interceptions in an exceptional defensive display that will go underrated.
CB Max Kilman, 7.5
Put his body on the line defensively and marshaled Ollie Watkins well in an excellent performance that did not deserve a defeat.
CB Konstantinos Mavropanos, 5.0
The clear weak link of the defensive. Poor on the ball and even more suspect with his marking. With a new manager, Mavropanos will be on the hot seat.
RB Aaron Wan-Bissaka, 7.0
Strong going forward and coming back for West Ham, Aaron Wan-Bissaka continues to be one of the lone true bright spots for the Hammers in this dismal season.
CM Edson Alvarez, 3.0
One of the worst players on the pitch for yet another game running. That West Ham continue to give Alvarez playing time is shocking, but that will likely change quickly under Potter.
Alvarez could not complete a pass to save his life and was an absolute sieve in transitions, offering no cover for the back four.
Premier League midfielders must salivate whenever they say Alvarez in the team sheet, because he is a grotesque liability whose main contributions to games seems to be complaining to the refs.
CM Tomas Soucek, 5.0
It is becoming harder and harder to justify his status in the squad or to understand what he offers above a replacement level player.
AM Lucas Paqueta, 7.5
Nearly scored the opener with a beautiful warning shot that whizzed past the top corner in the opening minutes, and then he delivered the killer finish just minute after that.
Paqueta was lively throughout on both ends of the pitch and a clear shining light for West Ham in this awful season.
And fair play to his sportsmanship for stopping play for a downed Leon Bailey when he could have easily continued.
LW Mohammed Kudus, 4.5
Clearly not one of his best days in a West Ham shirt. Kudus lost possession far too easily and, if anything, tried to do too much in the first half before fading into obscurity in the second.
Although he is a talented player, if Kudus truly wants to be a great player in the Premier League, he has to be much more consistent.
ST Danny Ings, 2.0
At this point, he is stealing a paycheck. I’m not sure what he did out there would even fly in the fourth division of football in any country.
RW Crysencio Summerville, Â 7.0
Sacrificed at the half for Vladimir Coufal so that West Ham could hunker down defensively, but that doesn’t mean he played poorly.
Far from it. He showed great decision-making on the opening assist to Lucas Paqueta and was always looking positive with his movement off the ball while defending hard the other way.
