Manchester United fans are anxiously awaiting word of Erik ten Hag’s future, because many have grown frustrated with the lack of results and the abrasive press conferences throughout the 2023/24 season.
The Red Devils are at risk of their worst finish in the Premier League era, as they are almost certainly out of the Champions League race.
INEOS are taking over Manchester United and have given ten Hag an edict to at least improve the club’s playing style, which may have taken a first step forward in a four-goal showing against Sheffield United. But for many Man United fans, it is too little, too late for the Dutch manager.
According to a report from The Athletic, the Manchester United vacancy would actually strongly appeal to current Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel, should the Red Devils decide to part ways with Erik ten Hag at the end of the season.
Tuchel won the Champions League in 2020/21 with Chelsea and reached the final the previous season with PSG. Though he does not last long at any given job, Tuchel gets results.
Even though he is leaving Bayern Munich at the end of the 2023/24 season with the club already dropping the Bundesliga to Bayer Leverkusen, Tuchel has taken Die Roten to the Champions League semifinals, where they will be facing Real Madrid.
Tuchel can bring discipline, an elite tactical mindset, and a winning track record to a Manchester United side that hasn’t had a competent manager since Jose Mourinho – and certainly hasn’t had a sure-fire top manager since Sir Alex Ferguson.
It’s unclear if Tuchel has the management to fulfill that role, but he would absolutely be an upgrade on ten Hag. His career track record is miles better.
If he is willing to give INEOS and Man United a chance, you have to figure the club – and the fans – would jump at the opportunity to land a name like Tuchel.
