Chelsea are always hungry to make big signings on the transfer market, and they aren’t going to stop at wunderkind Estevao Willian from Palmeiras when it comes to fortifying their squad with exciting young talent.
That’s been the MO since Todd Boehly has taken charge, and while some moves like Mykhaylo Mudryk and Enzo Fernandez have not paid off yet, other transfers like Cole Palmer and Malo Gusto are hitting big.
After missing out on Crystal Palace star winger Michael Olise to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, Chelsea are interested in signing some players who may be both more affordable and more willing to join a club that has consistently missed out on the Champions League.
According to veteran LaLiga reporter Guillem Balague, Chelsea have inquired to Barcelona about the availability of talented young striker Marc Guiu, who could reportedly be signed for a mere six million euros.
Guiu received his first crack at the Barcelona starting lineup last season in relief of superstar Robert Lewandowski, and he joined a growing list of young Barca players who stood out last season.
The 18-year-old striker only started that one game and logged a mere 73 minutes in LaLiga with an additional 30 or so minutes in the Champions League, but by scoring a key goal off the bench to lift his team to a 1-0 win over Athletic Club, he has made the most of his opportunities.
Guiu isn’t just competing with Lewandowski for minutes in Barcelona, though. Barcelona signed a top prospect from Brazil in the winter in Vitor Roque, who should play a bigger role next season after Hansi Flick replaced Xavi as manager, possibly because Xavi was so hesitant to give Roque minutes.
Chelsea would be signing a very unproven player in Guiu, but he is talented and quite cheap, if the six million euro price tag is indeed all it would take for Barcelona to sell a top academy product at striker to a European power in Chelsea. That remains to be seen.
