Report: According to a report from journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Juventus engaged in detailed discussions with Jadon Sancho’s agent. There is “strong” mutual interest in getting a deal done, but, right now, Juve have other priorities.
Analysis: The other priorities are likely elsewhere in the squad as they relate to acquiring Atalanta star Teun Koopmeiners and then potentially Jakub Kiwior of Arsenal as an alternative to Riccardo Calafiori, who is effectively choosing the Premier League over Serie A.
Sancho would come in as the Federico Chiesa replacement, and if last season is anything to go off of, Sancho should be an upgrade and has several years of elite-level play under his belt at Dortmund.
7/7: What Thiago Motta wants after Teun Koopmeiners
Report: According to a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport, after Juventus secure the signing of Teun Koopmeiners, Thiago Motta wants the club to sign a center back and a right back, two wingers, and a backup striker to Dusan Vlahovic.
Analysis: That center back could very well be Jakub Kiwior, with Yan Couto of Manchester City on the radar as a possible right-sided defender.
One of the wingers will surely be Jadon Sancho, who looks like a dream signing for Juventus with his creativity and dynamism on the ball. The other winger is entirely unknown, but perhaps Juve will look to a market opportunity in Serie A.
The Joshua Zirkzee trail has cooled from a Juventus perspective, but there may be a more intriguing option within the Italian top flight for Juve in Genoa star Albert Gudmundsson. He is one of the most well-rounded strikers in Europe.
7/7: Juventus in the lead for Jean-Clair Todibo
Report: Jean-Clair Todibo has Juventus at the top of his transfer wishlist, according to a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport’s Filippo Cornacchia and Alessandro Grandesso.
Nice would like 40 million euros in exchange for Todibo, whereas Juve would have to make sales to meet that price point or simply acquire the Frenchman on a loan with an option to buy.
As of right now, Gazzetta state that Arsenal’s Jakub Kiwior is a “Plan B” to the Ligue 1 star.
Analysis: So many big Premier League clubs have shown interest in Jean-Clair Todibo, but with INEOS unable to acquire the center back from Nice, the path is open for the likes of Tottenham and West Ham to land one of the most underrated players in world football.
Though with all the transfer interest and Nice’s success, Todibo is underrated no more – no longer the Barcelona loanee to Schalke who was dusting players in his own half with tricks and flicks.
Todibo has matured into a world-class center back and might end up being a better economic opportunity for Juventus than even Riccardo Calafiori.
7/7: Joao Cancelo offered to Juventus
Report: According to a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport’s Giovanni Albanese, superagent Jorge Mendes has offered right back Joao Cancelo to Juventus.
The Bianconeri are open to the idea of acquiring Cancelo, albeit merely on a loan from Manchester City while paying him a lower salary.
Analysis: Cancelo has found it difficult to latch onto high-profile loans with Bayern Munich and Barcelona, honestly struggling to play at a starting level for a Blaugrana side that was well behind Real Madrid in the LaLiga title race.
If anything, Cancelo should take a paycut and push hard to latch onto Juventus, returning to a club where he briefly shined brightly by sending beautiful crosses to superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
Cancelo is the best attacking fullback in the game and a midfielder in his quality with the deliveries he provides. Dusan Vlahovic would love him, and Thiago Motta could value the extra attacking juice.
But Cancelo is a risk. As Barcelona and Bayern found out, he has been phased away from the Manchester City lineup because he is a liability in defense.
7/6: How much Juventus plan to offer for Teun Koopmeiners
Report: According to Il Giornale’s Nicholas Schira, Juventus will use the funds they generate from a Federico Chiesa transfer to sign Atalanta’s Teun Koopmeiners with the aim of an offer between 50 and 55 million euros.
Analysis: It’s a reasonable price for Koopmeiners, who is legitimately one of the best midfielders in Europe and proved it with an even better second season in Bergamo, including a Europa League blowout win over Bayer Leverkusen.
Koopmeiners is exactly what Thiago Motta and Juve are looking for in midfield, but Juventini will be forgiven for bristling at the thought of signing a center midfielder for double the amount of the most talented winger in Italian football.
7/6: Thiago Motta wants Mateo Retegui
Report: Per La Gazzetta dello Sport, new Juventus manager Thiago Motta would like to sign players in backup positions who are good enough to start and increase the competition in the squad. To compete with Dusan Vlahovic, Motta has Genoa striker and Italian national team player Mateo Retegui in mind.
Analysis: Retegui emerged on the Juve radar months ago before Motta even took the job, so it would not be surprising for the Bianconeri to take a punt on the potentially clinical finisher despite a rough 2023/24 campaign in Genoa.
Actually, Genoa’s best striker was on Juve’s radar even before that, though Albert Gudmundsson doesn’t evidently carry the same cachet or scoring upside.
Thiago Motta worked wonders with a talented young striker at Bologna in a certain Joshua Zirkzee, so perhaps he can have the same success with Retegui, who is just as gifted.
7/6: Thiago Motta is watching Karim Adeyemi
Report: In addition to Jadon Sancho, Thiago Motta is also interested in another Dortmund winger in Karim Adeyemi, per a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport’s Filippo Cornacchia.
Analysis: Karim Adeyemi was one of the most touted prospects in world football before moving to Dortmund, because there was talk that he could even go directly to Real Madrid or Barcelona.
Clearly, Adeyemi would not be ready for such a move. He’s had his moments, such as a game-winning goal a couple of years back in the Champions League knockouts against Chelsea, but by and large, Adeyemi has failed to meet expectations at Dortmund.
The club itself has phased him out of the lineup because of his inconsistency, but the other side of the coin is that Dortmund has fallen off in terms of how it helps young players, looking no further than the treatment of Adeyemi’s teammate Youssoufa Moukoko.
Thiago Motta has a much better track record of success working with younger talent than Edin Terzic, so at the right price or on a loan with an option to buy, the 22-year-old Adeyemi could be a worthy gamble.
7/6: Two more big clubs want Gleison Bremer
Report: According to Tutto Juve’s Mirko Di Natale, Liverpool and Bayern Munich have joined Chelsea and Manchester United as clubs with interest in Juventus center back Gleison Bremer.
Juve, however, plan on keeping Bremer and will only entertain offers of at least 70 million euros for the Brazilian star.
Analysis: Bremer is one of the best center backs in world football and has a Serie A Defender of the Year award to prove it. It would be a shock for Juve to sell him and have to replace their best defender when they already want to sign a center back and right back, but money talks.
These are major clubs with even bigger defensive needs than Juventus, especially Manchester United and Bayern Munich with their overhauls and planned sales, including former Juve man Matthijs de Lig.
The smart money says that Bremer continues his footballing career in Turin, but you never know if a club like Chelsea, Manchester United, or even CB-needy Liverpool comes in with a massive cash offer.
