Tottenham had themselves a day on Saturday in the Premier League, dismantling Everton 4-0 to bounce back from a disappointing draw to Leicester City on Matchday 1.
Son Heung-min led the way with two more goals to his impressive career tally with Tottenham, and while the South Korean superstar was, per usual, the star of the show, it was a team effort from Spurs to dismantle an overwhelmed Everton side.
Alan Shearer released his picks for the Premier League Team of the Week for Matchday 2, and for their 4-0 triumph over Everton, Tottenham were rewarded with three players in the XI – the most of any team in the league this week.
Unsurprisingly, Son made the cut on the left wing for his brace of goals, additionally drawing a pair of fouls as the main attacking inspiration behind the drubbing of the Toffees.
But for their parts in the clean sheet and for helping the attack, the excellent center back pairing of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven also made it in as the center backs in the back three, flanking new West Ham star Max Kilman.
Van de Ven had a Riccardo Calafiori-esque assist, marauding up the heart of the pitch before laying off for Son to remind fans around the Premier League that he is one of the best in the business in his own right.
The 23-year-old Dutch defender was at his sterling best at reading the game against a, quite frankly, overmatched opponent, recording two interceptions. He also completed 93 percent of his 70 pass attempts.
Romero was even better, scoring a goal and leading the team with 97 pass attempts, completing 93 percent of those passes. He attempted difficult passes, too, completing two of two through balls and five of seven long balls in a world-class passing display at the back.
The 26-year-old former Juventus and Atalanta defender is arguably the best center back in the Premier League, and he showed it defensively, too, with a whopping six tackles in a fine performance worthy, at a minimum, of a spot in Shearer’s best XI of the week.
