Tottenham get positive injury update on Wilson Odobert return

Tottenham made a number of big investments in their future during the summer 2024 transfer window, with Archie Gray and Wilson Odobert standing out as two significant signings representing a new approach from Daniel Levy and the club to sign top prospects.

Odobert and Gray both played in English football last season, with the Frenchman joining from Burnley for nearly 30 million euros. Tottenham believe that Odobert, currently valued at 10 million euros by Transfermarkt, will be able to make a leap to stardom during his time in North London.

The 19-year-old has already made two Premier League starts in his first season with Tottenham, and he even got 22 minutes off the bench against arch rivals Arsenal.

However, Odobert suffered an injury in his most recent match against Coventry in the League Cup, with Tottenham coach Ange Postecoglou calling the hamstring injury a “fairly significant” one.

Tottenham fans did get some good news this weekend, though, as L’Equipe revealed that the talented French prospect will be able to return in mid-October, presumably after the international fixtures end on around Oct. 15.

That gives Odobert plenty of time to recover, but it also means the versatile attacker – capable of starting as a left winger, right winger, attacking midfielder, or center forward – won’t have to miss many games.

Tottenham should play it safe with their young standout, but what could have been a more significant injury will likely only cost Odobert matches against Qarabag and Ferencavros in the Europa League, as well as Manchester United and Brighton in the Premier League.

The absence as an option against the Seagulls and Red Devils will be tough, and Odobert will hate having to miss two easy Europa League fixtures. But he should hopefully be back in mid-October for the Premier League battle against West Ham.

So far this season, Odobert is averaging 1.7 tackles, 1.0 key passes, and 1.0 dribbles completed per game for Spurs in the Premier League.
