Newcastle choose their priority transfer target at RW

Newcastle entertained transfer offers for right winger Miguel Almiron last summer, but they didn’t seem all that serious about selling the 30-year-old attacker and signing a superior replacement,

Almiron’s goal-scoring touch in the 2022/23 season was vital to the club securing Champions League football, but it was the only truly strong season of his time at Newcastle.

Predictably, Almiron’s performances fell badly in 2023/24, as he lagged behind breakout stars Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon, proving to be the clear weak link in an otherwise fiery Newcastle attack.

The Magpies failed to qualify for European football last season, and now, they are left with players like Almiron riding the bench and a gaping hole on the right wing that Jacob Murphy is only partially able to fill.

According to a report from Mark Douglas, Newcastle have picked out their priority transfer target to replace Almiron in the January transfer window, and their dream signing is none other than Brentford breakout star Bryan Mbeumo.

The 25-year-old scored nine goals in each of his last two Premier League seasons, and now that he’s entering his prime years in the exciting Brentford attack, Mbeumo is reaching new heights in 2024/25 with six goals through eight games thus far.

Mbeumo is one of the most electrifying and efficient attacking players in the Premier League right now, versatile enough to play virtually anywhere across the attack in a 4-3-3.

It’s easy to see why Newcastle would be all over Mbeumo as a transfer target, as he looks like an even more enticing target than Ivan Toney, who ultimately collected a major payday this summer from the Saudi Pro League.

Brentford drive a hard bargain, but Newcastle have cash to burn and a gaping hole on the right wing. Furthermore, if they can sell Almiron off for a sufficient fee to the Saudi Pro League, they’ll have even more ammunition to make a move for Mbeumo.

But a winter transfer is a lot more difficult to pull off than a summer one, especially if Brentford can make just enough noise to think they have an outside shot at Conference League football in 2025/26.
