New Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim will take over the club on Nov. 11, and his first actual game as the official head coach will take place on Nov. 24 against newly promoted Premier League side Ipswich Town and their manager Kieran McKenna, once linked to the Man United gig.
Amorim comes to Old Trafford with a ton of hype, as he was one of the most coveted managers on the open market, turning down other high-profile jobs before ultimately settling on the Manchester United vacancy after the club finally moved on from Erik ten Hag.
Manchester United would be heavy favorites against Ipswich regardless of the coach, so this matchup is an opportunity for the former Sporting CP manager to make a statement to the rest of the Premier League.
And it sounds like Amorim will get a nifty boost to help him along the way. Per the Evening Standard, as summer signing Leny Yoro nears his return from a preseason injury, his expected return date is actually the Nov. 24 fixture against Ipswich Town.
Yoro was the most in-demand defender on the summer transfer market, and he chose to join Manchester United in 2024 instead of risking a benching from Lille in 2024/25 to sign with Real Madrid for free in 2025.
Manchester United ponied up 60 million euros, and with Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui also on the way, Yoro became the centerpiece of an overhauled Man United defense.
Mazraoui already looks like one of the best fullbacks in the Premier League, and if Yoro can have the same immediate impact on the Man United defense, then the Red Devils will be golden with Diogo Dalot and Lisandro Martinez rounding out the back four in front of another ex-Ajax star in Andre Onana.
Yoro was one of the best center backs in Europe last season for Lille, surpassing the Sporting CP duo of Ousmane Diomande and Goncalo Inacio as the best young gem at the position.
Amorim worked wonders with those young stars in Lisbon, and so Yoro getting his start after a delay due to injury could be the final boost Manchester United needs to kick things up a notch in their new era.
