The minute it was reported that Manchester United would be hiring Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim to replace Erik ten Hag, the transfer rumor mill started lighting up with all the top young talents on the Portuguese powerhouse that could make the jump to Old Trafford.
Manchester United have quite the relationship with signing former Sporting CP talents. Cristiano Ronaldo, the biggest talent in the history of the Premier League, is the obvious standout, but even current No. 10 Bruno Fernandes proved to be a brilliant signing from the Portuguese top flight.
Amorim already has a strong set of center backs after the additions of Matthijs de Ligt and, especially, Leny Yoro this past summer for Ten Hag, but Sporting CP could still benefit from either Goncalo Inacio or Ousmane Diomande.
But the most exciting talent at Sporting CP is star striker Viktor Gyokeres, who is wanted by virtually every top club in the Premier League, with Arsenal the most interested.
Gyokeres could help Manchester United, but they already signed two younger striker talents from Serie A in each of the past two seasons: Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.
Manchester United will probably have Amorim try to get the most out of Zirkzee and Hojlund first before pushing for an expensive striker signing, but what’s funny is Amorim already has eyes on an even bigger talent than Gyokeres – and an even bigger Serie A star than either Hojlund or Zirkzee were.
According to a report from Caught Offside;s Jason Pettigrove, the new Manchester United manager wants the club to sign Napoli superstar left winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who could be signed for 90 million pounds.
Kvaratskhelia, like Victor Osimhen, is evidently a possible transfer from Napoli because of a contract impasse, and while the sensible outcome would be for the Partenopei to throw all their money at the Georgian superstar, there is an opening for Europe’s richest clubs to steal the 2022/23 Serie A MVP from Naples.
Manchester United have Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho as left wing options, but Kvaratskhelia quite obviously trumps them both. He would be a dream signing for Ruben Amorim, who thrives on these kinds of players capable of doing damage in one-on-ones and taking advantage of space in transitions.
Kvaratskhelia is probably too much of a dream signing in the eyes of some, but Amorim and Man United should be going after these kinds of players if they want to truly transform the club into the status they should be achieving based on their size and pedigree – and that is the status of a Premier League champion.
