Tottenham are going after yet another top midfield prospect

Tottenham were quietly one of the more active teams in the Premier League in the summer 2024 transfer window, with their most discussed signing being the 65 million pound acquisition of Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke.

Despite the harsh words of critics, such as myself, Solanke has actually looked like he’s worth the money for Tottenham, putting in another strong display this weekend with a brace against fellow top-four hopefuls Aston Villa.

Solanke wasn’t the most pivotal signing of the summer, though. That honor belongs to Archie Gray, a significant investment in the future on the part of Tottenham at around 30 million pounds.

In addition to Gray, Tottenham had already agreed to the signing of another top midfield prospect in Lucas Bergvall, who agreed to terms with Spurs last winter after choosing the Premier League club over Barcelona.

Tottenham aren’t done scouting out top young names in the middle of the park, though, as Sky Sports Germany reports that Daniel Levy and Co. are among the high-profile clubs interested in Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Hugo Larsson.

The 20-year-old Swedish international moved to Frankfurt from Malmo in 2023, and he started 21 games in his first season with the Eagles. This season, he’s already started eight matches for Eintracht, who are flying high as Champions League contenders again.

Larsson is playing deeper in midfield and contributing well to the club’s Europa League efforts with 1.7 tackles and 0.7 interceptions per game while completing over 85 percent of his passes.

Clearly not the finished product, Larsson isn’t anywhere near standing out or filling his potential with Frankfurt, but anyone can see that the technical and athletic attributes are there for the young Swede.

Tottenham could take a low-risk flier on Larsson, pending Eintracht’s willingness to sell and thus the overall asking price, and watch him develop alongside Gray and Bergvall as Spurs assemble a midfield for the future around the likes of Pape Sarr.
