Liverpool have the best winger duo in world football right now between Mohamed Salah, the best player in the Premier League, and left winger Luis Diaz, who has returned his world-class form under new manager Arne Slot.
And even when Diaz isn’t starting, Liverpool still arguably have the best partnership on the wings in European football because 1) Salah is that good and 2) Cody Gakpo is also having an outstanding breakout 2024, further improved by the appointment of Slot as manager.
Yet in the middle of the wingers, Liverpool have a question mark in their front three, as neither Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez have been able to force the issue of who is the true heir to Liverpool legend Roberto Firmino.
Both players have their strengths, as Jota is highly intelligent off the ball and clinical on it, while Nunez is a havoc-creator who is able to produce a high volume of chances for himself.
However, Jota is limited athletically, while Nunez continues to struggle to find the back of the net regularly, leaving Liverpool to hunt for alternatives on the transfer market in summer 2025.
Eintracht Frankfurt breakout superstar Omar Marmoush has quietly become a Ballon d’Or frontrunner for his jaw-dropping, match-winning performances in the Bundesliga with an astounding 11 goal and 7 assists in 10 matches.
Marmoush is also averaging 2.2 key passes, 2.5 dribbles completed, and 3.7 fouls drawn per game. His all-around impact, chance creation, finishing, explosiveness, and dribbling ability make him an ideal fit for the smashmouth Liverpool playing style that prefers well-rounded men in the middle.
And Liverpool are too smart to be fooled by the silly notion of there being a “Bundesliga tax”, which the Reds’ own stars, as well as great rival Erling Haaland, should have already dispelled that notion.
Marmoush makes sense as a frontrunner for the Liverpool center forward gig in 2025/26, but is always wise to keep other options in mind. And the best alternative appears to be another highly dynamic, explosive, and productive star within the Premier League.
Mohammed Kudus is the crown jewel of a West Ham side that has two other talented attacking stars in Jarrod Bowen and new signing Crysencio Summerville. But when watching the team play, it’s clear that they are never the same with Kudus bravely taking on defenders and creating all sorts of problems.
Like Nunez, Kudus doesn’t have the gaudiest goal-scoring totals, but he did score eight in his first season at West Ham and hasn’t been deployed as a full-time No. 9, even though he plays better through the middle than on the left or right wing.
In that way, Kudus is a gamble – not in the least because, per the Daily Mail’s Sami Mokbel, West Ham are understandably going to stick to their 85 million pound release clause before they even consider selling their most prized player.
But Kudus is a rare talent with the ball at his feet and the kind of creative monster on the ball that Liverpool should consider gambling for if – and this is a massive if – they don’t sign Marmoush and can get the Hammers to somewhat come down on their asking price.
If Liverpool want to sign someone who can score and assist in the double-digits up front or even potentially hit 20 and 20, a dice roll on the 24-year-old Kudus isn’t the worst idea on the world.
But Nunez himself had 11 goals and 8 assists in a previous season for Liverpool, even if his numbers are fizzling. Furthermore, he’s only a year older than Kudus and selling him would not recoup anywhere near 85 million pounds.
Meanwhile, the quoted price tag for Marmoush is around 50 million pounds, so unless if West Ham are willing to drop their price to the region of even 60 million pounds, Kudus makes little sense, even if Liverpool feel a tad desperate in the case they were to lose out on Marmoush completely.
