Manchester City interested in flipping the script with surprise reunion transfer

Manchester City always have their pulse on the best players in the world and often do a brilliant job of signing superstars just before they are known to everyone, as in the recent cases of Julian Alvarez, Rayan Cherki, and Jeremy Doku.

Next on their wish list appears to be another center midfielder as Man City look to rebuild the middle of the park, especially with continued speculation regarding Real Madrid’s dreams of Ballon d’Or winner Rodri.

According to a report from German journalist Patrick Berger of Sky Sports, Manchester City are interested in signing a former academy prospect of theirs in Borussia Dortmund center midfielder Felix Nmecha.

Per Berger, Man City have actually already contacted the representatives of the 25 year old German international. Nmecha reportedly wants to move to the Premier League, though Berger reports that Dortmund want to lock him down to a contract extension.

Dortmund have huge problems in the middle of the park, but in Nmecha and Jobe Bellingham, BVB have two quality young players who can help keep that unit afloat as they look to build, not lose, talent there.

But it will be hard for Nmecha to say no to a reunion. Nmecha never got to suit up for the Manchester City first team before being sent to Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga in a reverse Kevin De Bruyne move. He played well enough in Volkswagen’s city to earn a move to a bigger club in Dortmund.

Honestly, Nmecha is probably a step below the level of the starters Man City usually target in the transfer market, but he could fit as a unique rotational player with his ball progression and athletic traits, with the added sweetener of being familiar with the culture and identity of Pep Guardiola’s Man City.
