Filip Jorgensen, 3 players to blame the most for Chelsea’s 5-2 implosion vs. PSG in the Champions League

Chelsea were neck and neck with defending Champions League winners PSG at one point, but they imploded late in the second half, falling 5-2 in the first leg of the Round of 16 at the Parc des Princes. These three players cost Chelsea the most.

GK Filip Jorgensen

There is no single player more to blame than Filip Jorgensen, who was culpable on at least two of the goals PSG scored. Look, PSG would have won this game even if Robert Sanchez started, but you can’t just chalk it up as a team loss when your goalkeeper plays this badly.

Liam Rosenior made the controversial decision to start Jorgensen despite Robert Sanchez having a much better season, and instead of making the new coach look like a genius, he made him look like a fool. Jorgensen was putting his teammates in bad spots all game long with horrendous passing decisions.

CB Wesley Fofana

Although Wesley Fofana has been resurgent this season, this was clearly a game to forget for the French center back. He helped give up cavernous holes in the defense, as his marking on the French forwards was poor. He did not help Filip Jorgensen at all.

CB Trevoh Chalobah

This is the story of Trevoh Chalobah’s career. He looks like a world beater against the bad to mediocre Premier League teams, but any time you put him up against the best forwards in the world in a big game, he is terrible.

PSG were not the first big team to make Chalobah look terrible defensively, and they will not be the last. If Chelsea want to raise their standards, Chalobah cannot be starting big games for them in 2026/27.
