Manchester United veteran center back Harry Maguire used to be one of the most maligned players in world football, but the years have soften the fans meme’ing Maguire, who is recognized again as a valuable depth piece and leader.
There have been discussions to bring Maguire back for one more season, so long as the wages are right, and, now, according to a report from The i Paper Sport, all of Manchester United’s defensive injuries lately are increasing his chances of exactly that happening.
Man United are more inclined to offer Maguire, now 33 years of age, a new deal this summer. They are considering a contract extension for Maguire, whose contract will expire this summer transfer window, with a wage decrease of 190,000 to 100,000 pounds.
There are talks of Manchester United signing another standout center back to ease the injury burden that Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt are going through, but keeping Maguire would be an easy way to ensure quality depth and leadership remain at Old Trafford.
It is remain to be seen if Man United will indeed submit this new contract offer to Maguire, but with those looking fondly at his leadership this season and role in the resurgence under Michael Carrick, the Red Devils may want to keep a good thing going.
