Barcelona offered a chance to sign one of the best wingers in the world for very little

Barcelona have highlighted the left wing position as their biggest transfer priority in the summer 2024 window, and no player has been linked to the club more frequently than one of LaLiga’s own, Spanish national team standout Nico Williams.

As Williams continues to shine across from current Barcelona phenom Lamine Yamal at Euro 2024, Barca fans get more excited about the prospect of the Athletic Club star joining them, though the competition from the Premier League increases.

Barcelona do have other alternatives in mind, and they now have another top winger to add to their list of possible options in the summer 2024 transfer window.

According to a report from Diario Sport’s L. Miguelsanz, Barcelona have been offered the opportunity to sign Manchester United star left winger Jadon Sancho on loan for the 2024/25 season.

Sancho spent the second half of the 2023/24 season on loan at Borussia Dortmund, where he starred for years before making an 85 million euro move to Old Trafford.

The England international struggled at Manchester United with high-profile clashes with manager Erik ten Hag, leading to his eventual move back to Dortmund.

Although he helped BVB make it to the Champions League Final, Sancho could not stay with the Bundesliga giants because of the cost associated with making his transfer permanent (nearly 50 million euros).

It looks like that could benefit Barcelona, who, as we saw last season with the signings of Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo, love their loan opportunities.

Sancho would be an even bigger loan signing than either Felix or Cancelo, because he is a better player than both and actually fits a role Barcelona need.

Recall that Barcelona were linked to Sancho in around 2020 when he first started breaking out as arguably the best player in the Bundesliga alongside Bayern Munich’s record-breaking striker (and current Barca star) Robert Lewandowski.

Sancho can play on either wing, but with Yamal and Raphinha locking down the right side, the prolific 24-year-old would be the no-doubt, every-game starter on the left and a major upgrade on Ferran Torres and Joao Felix.

In a way, a loan deal is a free transfer with only wages needing to be covered, and if Barcelona only have to pay around 47 million euros (the same amount Dortmund were offered) at the end of the season to make the arrangement permanent, this could be a bargain deal if Sancho plays to the level he has shown he is capable of.
