Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Manchester City are regularly among the favorites to win the Champions League, and that is the case this season. But when it comes to having the best group of attackers in world football, Bayern stands head and shoulders above their two European rivals.
Sofascore is one of the best sites on the web for keeping track of football analytics, and they tabulate goals for attacking trios in European football. Bayern’s vaunted triumvirate of Harry Kane, Luis Diaz, and Michael Olise has been on a tear this season, and their goal totals back up the notion that they usurped Real Madrid and Barcelona as the best attacking trio in world football.
Here are the rankings for the top five trios in Europe in terms of goals scored in all competitions, not just league play:
1. Bayern Munich, 75
2. Real Madrid, 56
3. Sporting CP, 49
4. Manchester City, 48
5. SC Braga, 45
Even though the Portuguese league is easier to score goals in, Bayern are still flat-out dominating the competition, and only Kylian Mbappe and Real Madrid are even within 20 goals of Bayern’s front three.
For Real, Jude Bellingham makes it in over Rodrygo Goes so that a midfielder joins the duo of Mbappe and Vinicius Junior to form a trio. Meanwhile, Manchester City are led by Erling Haaland, with Phil Foden and new signing Rayan Cherki emerging alongside him.
What hurts Man City is that they have other scoring options, too, like new addition Antoine Semenyo this winter and then last winter’s signing Omar Marmoush. So they have more than just a trio of options, with Cherki and Foden being playmakers to Haaland.
But then, you could say the same about Diaz and Olise being more about making plays than scoring goals, though Diaz is second in the Bundesliga scoring charts behind clear leader Kane, who has more than double the number of goals than anyone else in German football.
