Chelsea submit contract offer to Enzo Maresca’s top striker target

Chelsea signed Nicolas Jackson last summer, but the Blues remain on the hunt for another striker in the summer 2024 transfer window after an unsurprisingly uneven season from the former Villarreal man.

Although Chelsea should be going after someone proven at striker, the Blues do not want to invest too much financially in one player and have cooled off the trail on the injury-prone Victor Osimhen.

Lately, Chelsea have been linked to more underrated options, including Lille star Jonathan David, who has interest from other Premier League sides like Tottenham.

Another option on Chelsea’s radar is Atletico Madrid loanee Samu Omorodion, who showed breakout potential in the 2023/24 LaLiga season.

The 20-year-old scored 8 goals for Deportivo Alaves, becoming a starter in the top flight and showcasing game-breaking ability, albeit unsurprisingly showing a rawness with his finishing.

Top clubs around Europe are starting to contact Atletico Madrid with a cursory interest in the young Spanish international, but Chelsea look like the most interested side.

Per Nicolo Schira, Chelsea have offered Omorodion a contract worth 2.5 million euros per season through the 2030/2031 campaign with bonuses that could raise his salary to six million euros per year.

Omorodion looks like the next attacking target in a long list of prospects for Chelsea, as the Blues continue to prioritize signings for the future, such as marquee addition Estevao Willian.

Furthermore, Schira reports that Omorodion, still a relative unknown in Premier League circles, is new manager Enzo Maresca’s top target at the striker position, which is a very surprising claim.

Omorodion has fans in LaLiga circles, but even those supporters may see a move to Chelsea as being too soon, especially if Atletico Madrid hold firm to an 85 million pound release clause that is more than double the striker’s true worth right now.

Chelsea have to be smart on the transfer market, even as they like going for high-upside bargains. Omorodion has a tantalizing combination of athletic traits, but the cost could be too steep.

Last summer, the Blues took a gamble on a high-upside, unproven LaLiga talent in Nicolas Jackson. Omorodion may have more intriguing traits, but he is even less proven than Jackson, who at least had a great half-season for Villarreal.
