Chelsea’s plan to put Nico Williams out of Barcelona’s reach

Chelsea are on the market for some major attacking upgrades, and they already made two splash signings this summer in Palmeiras winger prospect Estevao Willian and Barcelona striker prospect Marc Guiu.

The Blues aren’t done with spoiling Barcelona’s summer plans, though, because after signing Guiu for a meager six million euros, Chelsea are prepared to flex their financial might again and take a top transfer target away from Barcelona.

La Blaugrana are increasingly prioritizing Athletic Club left winger Nico Williams as their primary transfer target this summer, as the Spanish international has formed quite the one-two punch with Barca right winger Lamine Yamal at Euro 2024.

Williams has been one of the best wingers in LaLiga over the past two seasons, and he would fill a big need on the left wing for Barcelona.

In the same vein, Chelsea are looking for a left wing upgrade and someone who can compete with – and likely usurp- disappointing Shakhtar Donetsk signing Mykhaylo Mudryk.

Under new manager Enzo Maresca, Mudryk will continue to get chances to show the quality that made Chelsea spend 100 million euros to beat rivals Arsenal to the punch and sign the winger from the Ukraine.

However, Chelsea are prepared to go for Nico Williams and compete with Barcelona for a player who is suddenly the hottest left wing target on the transfer market.

According to a report from Diario Sport’s David Bernabeu, Chelsea are willing to offer Williams a salary between 15 and 20 million euros per season, which could end up being around double what he currently makes with Athletic Club.

Chelsea believe that by offering such a high salary and waiting things out, they can make it difficult for Barcelona to sign their top target because of their own salary restrictions.

However, the report goes on to say that Barcelona are confident they will land the 21-year-old Spanish attacker, as they have confidence Williams will wait for them and choose their offer over whatever Chelsea throws his way.

Williams will have the pick of several elite clubs, but it appears Barcelona are in the best position to sign him, though, in the modern game, money talks, and Chelsea are hoping the salary will be enough to sway the man with 11 LaLiga assists last season.
