Everton want to makes sure they stay alive in the Premier League relegation battle this season and would ideally like to finally have some breathing room apart from the teams in the bottom three of the table.
Adding more attacking juice needed to be the Toffees’ priority this summer, and they acquired two promising players in Marseille striker Iliman Ndiaye and Napoli attacking midfielder Jesper Lindstrom, who was among the many misused talents in their 2023/24 collapse.
Everton are optimistic that they can get more out of these two players, but they seem to be interested in landing a more proven commodity to work with their established names from the 2023/24 season.
According to a report from Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Everton have held long-standing interest in PSG attacker Carlos Soler and are now interested in forging ahead with concrete interest and contacts with PSG for the former Valencia star.
Brighton had previously shown interest in Soler, but West Ham are actually the team with the best chance of signing the versatile 27-year-old forward to add to a promising group of attacking signings this summer in Crysencio Summerville, Luis Guilherme, and striker Niclas Fullkrug of Dortmund fame.
Soler would be a nailed-on starter for Everton at just about any attacking position. He hasn’t done much for PSG since joining them, but in his final two seasons with Valencia before leaving for Ligue 1, Soler scored a combined 22 goals with 13 assists.
A quality playmaker with an eye for goal, Soler isn’t afraid to put in the dirty work and could make sense for Everton at the right price. PSG don’t seem to have any interest in keeping him long-term, and, indeed, it was confusing as to why they signed him in the first place.
But while Soler couldn’t cut the mustard as a starter for PSG, he is perfect for Everton, and, based on how they have performed recently, actually a step above the Toffees overall.
Everton’s interest in Soler could push former LaLiga manager Julen Lopetegui to sign the Spanish international, but Soler may make more sense for the Toffees, given he would have an easier path to playing time at Goodison Park.
