Fabrizio Romano has the Rodri transfer news Manchester City fans feared

Manchester City superstar defensive midfielder Rodri’s had a tough road to recovery since tearing his ACL early last season, but in recent matches, we have begun to see signs of the old Rodri emerging.

Surely, though, it appears Real Madrid are watching, and the whispers of the Merengue club wanting to snipe away the Ballon d’Or winner from their Champions League rivals are now being acknowledged by the best in the business.

According to reporting from Fabrizio Romano, via the Madrid Zone, there are those within the walls of the Santiago Bernabeu who are big fans of Rodri and love him. They want to bring the Manchester City man to the Spanish capital this summer.

Fab says that the decision ultimately rests with Rodri, but he is leaving the door open for the Spanish international to leave for La Liga, where he played for Real’s crosstown rivals Atletico Madrid before joining Man City in 2019 to rousing acclaim.

That is not news Manchester City fans wanted to hear. Now, Real Madrid loving Rodri and the player having the choice of leaving is one thing, but it would be another thing entirely for the Spanish international to actually take that step to go – and for City to sanction the move.

But at 29 years of age, Rodri is closer to a change than many may think, and Man City and Pep Guardiola have shown in the past that they are willing to sell almost any player at any price – and earlier than the mainstream crowd usually think.
