Manchester United still want €40M-rated CM despite rough start to season

Manchester United signed one of the best midfielders available in the summer 2024 transfer window, bringing in their top target Manuel Ugarte from PSG to replace a rapidly declining Casemiro.

Therefore, on paper, Manchester United have one of the best midfields in the Premier League with the young duo of Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo forming the base behind star playmaker Bruno Fernandes, who is a near-guarantee for 10 assists a season.

But Manchester United could use more depth behind those two deeper midfielders. Before finally securing Ugarte, Man United were seriously kicking around the idea of signing Atalanta’s rising star Ederson, especially after he shut down a previously undefeated Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League Final.

According to a report from TNT Sports in Brazil, Manchester United remain interested in signing Ederson even after the summer market, and they will still be tracking the 25-year-old going into January.

Ederson is valued at 40 million euros by Transfermarkt, but since Atalanta wanted more than that, Manchester United waited until they signed Ugarte, who is a better player.

But the Brazilian midfielder is still quite good, even if his start to the 2024/25 season for La Dea hasn’t been ideal. Ederson has a 6.55 rating from WhoScored and is averaging just 0.3 tackles and 0.3 dribbles completed per game.

The season is still young, though, and Ederson was solid in his previous two seasons, including 6 goals and 2.3 tackles per game in Serie A for Atalanta in a great all-around 2023/24 season for the fourth-best team in Italian football.
