Ranking the 10 best Premier League goalkeepers for 2025

It’s so easy for the brave men between the sticks to go underrated, so here are the best Premier League goalkeepers you need to know in 2025.

10. Bart Verbruggen, Brighton

Bart Verbruggen joined Brighton in the 2023/24 season after establishing himself as one of the best goalkeepers in Belgium, which, as a league, has a rich recent history of producing top goalkeepers like Thibaut Courtois.

Heavily recruited by other notable European clubs, Verbruggen has been a matchwinner in between the sticks for the Seagulls, placing him on this list ahead of bigger names like Andre Onana of Manchester United and Newcastle’s mercurial Nick Pope.

The Dutchman is only 22 years old and has already proven to be a sizable upgrade over Robert Sanchez for Brighton, owing to the fact that he is way more consistent than most keepers of his age. He’ll have to watch his back on this list for another young goalkeeper from Chelsea, Filip Jorgensen.

9. Mark Flekken, Brentford

Mark Flekken was one of the top goalkeepers in the Bundesliga for Freiburg before moving to Brentford, one of the best clubs at recruiting players, to replace David Raya.

Although Raya has blossomed further into arguably the best goalkeeper in the league, Flekken has proven to be one of the best Premier League goalkeepers in his own right.

This season, Flekken has a save percentage of 72, which is closer to the numbers he was putting up in Germany after a pretty rough introductory season in the Premiership with a save percentage hovering around 65.

8. Caoimhin Kelleher, Liverpool

After a penalty save and a clean sheet against Champions League nemesis Real Madrid, Caoimhin Kelleher solidified his status as one of the best rising goalkeepers in world football and one of the biggest breakout stars of the 2024/25 Premier League season.

Liverpool are blessed to have two top keepers, and if given more opportunities to start, there is little doubt that Kelleher has the quality to not only crack the top five, but even challenge for the top three of the best keepers in the division.

Kelleher has a career save percentage of around 71, matched by his work this season in relief of Alisson Becker, and he has that something special with his diving and reflexes.

7. Matz Sels, Nottingham Forest

Matz Sels is a highly underrated goalkeeper who was one of the best in the French top flight at Strasbourg, one of a number of standouts at the back who ensured the club’s survival.

Now, Sels is enhancing his reputation on a bigger stage at Nottingham Forest, who have one of the best defenses in European football and are on the precipice of doing something insane, qualifying for the Champions League.

The Belgian international is allowing just one goal per game with a whopping 75 percent save percentage, both of which would be career highs. Only two qualifying goalkeepers have higher save percentages this season than Sels.

6. Jordan Pickford, Everton

If it weren’t for Jordan Pickford, we wouldn’t be talking about any Everton player on a list like this, because the Toffees would have been relegated a long time ago.

The England national team starter, Pickford has been a reliable and sometimes spectacular servant for both club and country, accruing four seasons with a save percentage above 70, currently working on a fifth in the 2024/25 season for an overall dismal Everton side.

A fiery competitor with a penchant for letting his anger get the better of him, Pickford is one of those guys who always seems to leave his best performances for when they matter most.

5. Guglielmo Vicario, Tottenham

Tottenham have been hurting badly since Guglielmo Vicario suffered a serious injury, as his signing in 2023 helped lead to Spurs returning as Champions League contenders in the Premiership, having previously missed out on any sort of European football in 2022/23 despite having a record-breaking Harry Kane at striker.

Vicario was one of the best goalkeepers in Italian football before making the jump from lowly Empoli to mighty Tottenham, and even Bayern Munich were considering signing Vicario as the heir to Manuel Neuer. Other top clubs in Italy, such as Inter Milan, were also involved in the sweepstakes.

The usual Premier League-only crowd may have initially been skeptical of the Vicario signing, but the ever-consistent, cat-like keeper has become beloved in North London and sorely missed in his absence.

4. Kepa Arrizabalaga, Bournemouth

Kepa Arrizabalaga couldn’t quite nail even a second-string role at Real Madrid, but there’s no shame in losing out to Andriy Lunin, who was quite literally as brilliant as the best keeper in the world, Thibaut Courtois, during his 2023/24 campaign with the Merengues, helping the team win LaLiga and the Champions League – even if he didn’t get to start the final over the big Belgian,

After returning to Chelsea from his loan spell in Spain, the former Athletic Club keeper was sent back on loan again with Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen vying for the top spots at Stamford Bridge.

Now on loan at Bournemouth, Kepa, the Neto replacement, has been one of the best Premier League goalkeepers again, just as he was in the 2022/23 season before Chelsea somewhat surprisingly sent him to Madrid after Courtois’ ACL tear.

Kepa has a save percentage of 75 so far this season, which would make it four straight seasons with a save percentage of over 73. He has come a long way since being branded an historic flop at Chelsea just a few years ago.

3. Emiliano Martinez, Aston Villa

Emiliano Martinez regularly wins awards for being the best goalkeeper in the world, but even before he received mainstream adoration for his heroics at the 2022 World Cup, including this unforgettable save to deny Kylian Mbappe, Aston Villa fans were already touting him as one of the world’s finest.

“Dibu” doesn’t have the sensational numbers in the Premier League that his peers do, but the Argentinian icon is still going strong and is undeniably one of the best in the league when you actually watch him play.

He has such a presence between the sticks that intimidates strikers, which leads him to be so exceptional at penalties. He is an exceptional athlete and is always brave to command his box, which has become a lost art in the modern game.

2. David Raya, Arsenal

If this list were solely based on performances in the 2024/25 Premier League season, then Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya would pretty much run away with first place on the list.

There was a stretch of games about a month or two ago in which Raya was close to untouchable, gracing highlight reels with jaw-dropping saves on the level of any great keeper to have played this game over the last decade.

Raya rarely has bad games, and when he’s at his best, he looks like he’s second to only Courtois in the world rankings. It will take a couple of more seasons of that level of goalkeeping to reach that sort of international acclaim, but Raya is well on his way to rivaling Jens Lehmann as one of the best ever Arsenal keepers.

This season, Raya is second in the league in both save percentage and goals allowed per 90 minutes, and no other keeper is even in the top five in both categories simultaneously.

1. Alisson Becker, Liverpool

Alisson missed some time with a significant injury, but the Brazilian international is, once again, the class of the Premier League. It’s amazing to think that he and Manchester City standout Ederson were once battling neck-and-neck among pundits for the recognition of being the league’s best, because, over the past couple of seasons, Alisson has clearly pulled away from his less consistent countryman.

In the clutch, Alisson is as good as it gets. He is a security blanket in goal for Liverpool, and his signing from Roma has proven to be just as instrumental to the Reds’ long-term success as Mohamed Salah’s own.

Alisson is one of the biggest difference-makers in goal in all of world football, and even in a season blighted by injury, he has the best ratio of goals allowed per game in the Premier League at 0.81. It’s a stat the 32-year-old has led the league in three other times in his career before, affirming his status as one of the best Premier League goalkeepers of the last decade – and the best in 2025.
