Who are the best Premier League right backs right now in 2025? From up-and-comers like Jurrien Timber to established superstars like Trent Alexander-Arnold, let’s take a look at the top 10.
Ranking the 10 best Premier League goalkeepers for 2025
Ranking the 10 best Premier League center backs for 2025
Ranking the 10 best Premier League left backs for 2025
10. Kenny Tete, Fulham
Kenny Tete is a solid role player and one of the better defensive fullbacks in the Premier League with 4.8 combined tackles and interceptions per game on the 2024/25 season so far. He’s an underrated reason why Fulham finds themselves back in the hunt for European football.
9. Ola Aina, Nottingham Forest
Nottingham Forest are shockingly still in the Champions League conversation, and with arguably the best defense in all of Europe, they look like they will be in the mix until Matchday 38.
Ola Aina doesn’t get as much press as center backs Murillo and Nikola Milenkovic, but he’s been excellent on the right side of that sturdy Forest defense with 3.4 combined tackles and interceptions per game.
8. Jurrien Timber, Arsenal
The young Jurrien Timber was a standout for Ajax before making the jump to Arsenal, and although he’s a utility backup for the Gunners, he has proven to be starting-caliber in Ben White’s absence due to injury.
Timber still has something to prove before he can edge past White, on the grounds of experience, but in the long term, Timber has what it takes to eventually challenge for the top spot as one of the best Premier League right backs.
He’s already in the top 10 as a highly athletic pure defender with instincts beyond his age at the position. Timber was almost never beaten in one-on-ones at Ajax last season, and he’s been pretty close to that level in the Premier League, which has traditionally been a massive step up for players.
7. Ben White, Arsenal
Ben White isn’t originally a right back by trade, but the once controversial signing from Brighton ended up blossoming at the position out of necessity with Arsenal having more quality in central defense than on the right hand side.
Adept at underlapping or overlapping, White is an elite one-on-one defender with sound positional fundamentals and more than enough technical quality to make the right back position stick, even if there are more explosive attacking options at the position.
6. Aaron Wan-Bissaka, West Ham
Branded as a transfer flop at Manchester United, Aaron Wan-Bissaka may lack technical ability, but, as West Ham have found out, he’s no slouch on the offensive end when you look at his speed and ball progression.
Of course, AWB earns his keep by defending as well as any right back in world football, and he has been one of the few revelations on a Hammers side that has been seemingly worse in 2024/25 despite making a bevy of summer signings – and hiring a new coach.
5. Daniel Munoz, Crystal Palace
A stat maven on the right side of the Crystal Palace formation, Daniel Munoz is putting up the kinds of numbers that would rival Wan-Bissaka when he was first making a name for himself on the Eagles as one of the best Premier League right backs.
Munoz is putting up 5.4 combined tackles and interceptions per game for Palace after averaging 4.9 per contest in the second half of the 2023/24 season after his transfer from the Belgian top flight.
Offensively, the Colombian standout had 23 goal contributions in the previous two seasons combined when adding up his statistics at Gent and Crystal Palace. Munoz is legitimately one of the most underrated players in the Premier League.
4. Noussair Mazraoui, Manchester United
A tremendous summer signing made by Manchester United, Noussair Mazraoui now gives the Red Devils two of the best Premier League right backs, as the Moroccan international has a successful track record at the international level, in the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich, and even at Ajax.
In fact, Mazraoui was already a great player at Ajax before joining Bayern for free, and, now, Die Roten should be kicking themselves after letting one of the world’s top right backs go for fewer than 20 million pounds, even including add-ons.
3. Diogo Dalot, Manchester United
Diogo Dalot vs. Noussair Mazraoui is the closet battle between spots on this list – even closer than Kenny Tete vs. Ola Aina – but Dalot gets the edge because, ultimately, he is more versatile and it is more difficult to find a player with his attacking qualities.
First spotted by Cristiano Ronaldo as one of the only true bright spots during his ill-fated return to Old Trafford, Dalot has certainly made his country’s greatest ever player proud by shining and building his own legacy at Manchester United.
A technical player with great athleticism, Dalot is adept at carrying the ball forward, creating chances, and winning possession on pure work rate alone. There are better one-on-one defenders and still better crossers of the ball, but Dalot is comfortably above average at both and one of United’s most important players whether he is a wing back, left back, right back, or something else entirely.
2. Pedro Porro, Tottenham
Pedro Porro was on the radar of clubs as big as Manchester City and Real Madrid before Tottenham ultimately took the plunge on the Sporting CP star, and Porro is indeed fulfilling his destiny as one of the top right backs in a big European league.
The latest in a long line of individuals to make a successful transition from Portugal to England, Porro is one of the best two-way right backs in the Premiership and is one of Spurs’ most key assets.
Porro registered 10 goal contributions in his first full season with Tottenham and is already at 6 so far in the 2024/25 campaign, proving to be an adept playmaker for Spurs while averaging nearly 3 combined tackles and interceptions per game.
1. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool
If this is indeed the end for Trent Alexander-Arnold at Anfield, then, despite a poor performance against Manchester United, it looks like he will go out on top with Liverpool leading both the Premier League and Champions League.
Alexander-Arnold is the best passer at the right back position that we have seen since Dani Alves at Barcelona, and the Brazilian was quite literally the best passing fullback of all time, working alongside the likes of Lionel Messi and David Villa.
TAA has had his own share of superstars on his side over the years, most namely Mohamed Salah, but he has become one of the biggest names in English football in his own right.
The pastures of the Santiago Bernabeu are beckoning this homegrown icon of Liverpool, and Alexander-Arnold remains the standard by which all other Premier League right backs are measured.
