Real Madrid reignite interest in an old dream transfer target

Real Madrid have been on a bit of a streak recently, showing interest and working in silence for so many good deals in the market, slowly addressing every single need on their already incredible roster.

We obviously have Kylian Mbappe’s imminent transfer to Real Madrid, which addresses the goalscorer’s need. They’ve been working on Alphonso Davies, which is also an important position that needs reinforcement. They have established concrete interest in Leny Yoro, one of the best young centre-backs in the game.

Now, they are set to reignite interest in a player they used to be very interested in.

First reported by Matteo Moretto of Relevo, then by Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid have an interest in signing Trent Alexander-Arnold.

No talks have been held yet, but they’re said to be just keeping an eye on his contractual situation with Liverpool.

Trent’s contract is set to expire in 2025, which might trigger top clubs to go for him next summer if Liverpool are not able to get a deal done with him regarding an extension.

The relationship between Liverpool and Trent has never been in doubt, and a renewal is definitely on the cards, but Real Madrid are keeping their tabs open if it isn’t. The talks aren’t progressing, which is why Los Blancos have an eye on the situation.

Looking at the actual transfer, it would make a lot of sense. Trent is one of the best right-backs in the world, and even though he has some problems on the defensive end — a lot of which is overblown — he could still be a fantastic asset to this Real Madrid team.

Dani Carvajal has been on a revival run in ways this season, but he is not getting any younger, and finding a replacement for him is very important for the club’s future.

Another thing about Trent’s defensive deficiencies: When has that ever been a problem for a club like Real Madrid? The things Trent would provide in the attack are so important, that the defensive side of things may be overlooked.

It will surely be an interesting thing to follow, and Jude Bellingham’s friendship with Trent may come in handy in due time.
