EPL MOTM Predictions: Leicester vs. Forest, Brighton vs. Wolves, Everton vs. Fulham

Everton vs. Fulham Fulham are in the top half of the Premier League table after eight Matchdays, above big summer spenders Manchester United, and while nobody really takes them seriously as European contenders, they're only two points off seventh-placed Tottenham. You'd have to back the Cottagers as pretty heavy favorites against an Everton side that continues to be in disarray and shows no real signs of sustained progress here in 2024. Everton sit 16th in the table, but they are at least five points clear of Crystal Palace in the drop zone, though it's hard to argue that the Toffees have a better squa than the Eagles in any way. For Fulham, the most likely Man of the Match this weekend at Goodison Park will be Alex Iwobi, for the simple fact that the Fulham left winger is going ...

EPL Top 3 Stars of the Week: Alejandro Garnacho joins Brighton, Aston Villa standouts

Here were the top three individual performers in the Premier League on the weekend of Matchday 8 of the 2024/25 season. Manchester United LW Alejandro Garnacho Alejandro Garnacho has been one of the gems of the 2024/25 Premier League season, and even though he is a pretty well-known name on Manchester United, it still feels like more people outside of Old Trafford should be singing the 20-year-old's praises. In a must-win 2-1 triumph over Brentford, Garnacho was irresistible on the left-hand side of the Manchester United attack, showing a lot more incisiveness and threat in that marquee position than veteran Marcus Rashford, who ended up having a key game on the right side himself. Garnacho has more than earned the opportunity to be a regular starter for Manchester United, whether ...

EPL Top 6 Table Predictions after Liverpool outlast Chelsea, Arsenal falter, and Brighton dig in

6. Brighton Brighton have a reputation for being a high-flying team that isn't afraid to go all-out attack and take risks to score goals, particularly against the big boys, so it was good to see them dig their heels in for a gritty 1-0 win over Newcastle. That win should seal the fact that Brighton have a better and more well-rounded squad than Newcastle, who seem to have overestimated their talent in each of the past two seasons. The issue is that when you tally up the goal differential, Brighton are behind both Chelsea and Tottenham in goal difference despite being ahead of both London powerhouses in the league table. I still like Brighton's chances of holding off Tottenham for the final spot in the top six, though, because with Carlos Baleba, they have a superior midfield. Spu...

EPL Predictions: Tottenham take care of West Ham, Brighton threaten Newcastle, Liverpool dominate Chelsea

Tottenham vs. West Ham Tottenham’s devastating 3-2 loss to Brighton was the worst result for any Premier League team on Matchday 7 before the international break. The North London club blew a 2-0 lead to the Seagulls in the second half.  Manager Ange Postecoglou looked despondent after the match, and stressed that what he saw from his side was unacceptable. Admittedly, it’s a bit silly to say, but I can’t see this Tottenham side losing again after such an embarrassing loss. I don’t think ‘Big Ange’ will let them. It’s not just that though.  Son Heung-min is back from injury. Having their club captain back makes Spurs a totally different team on both sides of the ball. Tottenham’s opponents are another reason I’m confident about the Lilywhites’ chances this weekend.  West Ham have...

Grading All Brighton’s 2024 Summer Transfers: Rutter dazzles, Yalcouye surprises

Brighton were one of the biggest spenders in all of world football this summer. The Seagulls spent nearly £200m on some of the most in demand players in Europe. Now that we’ve actually seen most of these players in action, let’s rank all of Brighton’s summer transfers. Georginio Rutter: A Fabian Hürzeler took his time bedding in Georginio Rutter after Brighton signed him for a club record fee of £40m from Leeds. It’s still early, but now that we’ve seen what the Frenchman can do, it’s looking like he's worth every penny. Rutter’s technical ability, work rate, versatility has been essential to making Brighton’s attack work while João Pedro has been injured. We saw all three aspects of his game on full display against Tottenham, where he scored a goal and later fought free from three Sp...

EPL Predictions: Aston Villa embarrass Man Utd, Chelsea on upset watch, Tottenham outclass Brighton

Premier League Matchday 7 features a full slate of matches, including Aston Villa vs. Manchester United, Chelsea vs. Nottingham Forest, and Brighton vs. Tottenham. To help you get ready for all the action, here are our EPL predictions for these big matches. Aston Villa vs. Manchester United  After beating Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday, Aston Villa are flying. Unai Emery has brought the club to a level many Villa fans probably thought they would never see again.  Things couldn’t be more different at Manchester United. The Red Devils were embarrassed by Tottenham last week. They are in 13th place and have won just one of their last five Premier League matches.  Despite this poor run, Erik ten Hag told Sky Sports that there’s nothing to worry about at Man Utd. I c...
Brighton might have the most underrated forward in the whole Premier League

Brighton might have the most underrated forward in the whole Premier League

When Brighton broke their club transfer record to sign João Pedro ahead of the 2023/24 Premier League season, there were a lot of doubters. I’m ashamed to admit that I was one of them.  Brighton needed a goalscorer and Pedro had scored three goals in 31 Premier League appearances for Watford. He scored just 11 goals in the Championship the year prior.  A year-and-a-half on since his signing, I’ll admit I was wrong. Pedro isn’t just the reliable goalscorer that Brighton desperately needed. He is also one of the most underrated players in the Premier League. The Goalscorer Before I get into why I’m so high on Pedro, let’s go over just how wrong myself and the other doubters were about him last year.  Pedro went on to score 20 goals across all competitions for Brighton in the 2023/...
Ranking the 25 best Premier League wingers of the last 5 years

Ranking the 25 best Premier League wingers of the last 5 years

Ranking the best wingers in the Premier League is a task so onerous that it may seem foolhardy, because even restricting the time span to the last five years doesn't make the task even easier. How do you rank, for example, a new breakout star like Anthony Gordon against a fallen superstar like Sadio Mane? Where does a gifted footballer like Riyad Mahrez stand against a former goal-scoring machine like Raheem Sterling? I tried my best to be fair and account for the unique merits each player brought to the table and avoid any club-based bias. I also decided to discard players who mostly offered value at non-winger positions, specifically Bernardo Silva, mostly to make my own job easier. (Don't worry, I'll have plenty of nice things to say about Silva in other pieces.) Finally, I did...

Brighton Women in advanced talks to sign Nikita Parris from Manchester United

Brighton Women have ambitions of rising up the table in the FA WSL and eventually making it to European competition, much in the same way their men's team made it to the Europa League in the 2023/24 season after several shrewd signings. To that end, Brighton have signed two of the best attacking midfielders in the FA WSL in England legend Fran Kirby and another former Chelsea star in Jelena Cankovic. But Brighton may not be done with adding attacking firepower ahead of the FA WSL transfer deadline tomorrow on Friday Sept. 13. According to a report from Tom Garry of The Guardian, Brighton are now in advanced talks with Manchester United for the signing of 30-year-old right winger Nikita Parris. A star for the England national team a few years ago, Parris is a former FA WSL champ...

Brighton Women acquire Barcelona attacking phenom

Brighton Women finished ninth in the FA WSL table last season, so the Seagulls are intent on climbing higher up the table and forming a project capable of finishing in the top half of the league. They are off to a strong start this summer, as they have signed two big names from Chelsea in England legend Fran Kirby and experienced midfielder Jelena Cankovic. Both Cankovic and Kirby should bring plenty of technical quality, star power, experience, and attacking flair to a Brighton side that could use a few more difference-makers in a playmaking capacity. And now, Brighton have adde a younger, less established player with plenty of upside to boost the Seagulls' attack for the 2024/25 FA WSL season in the form of a winger capable of starting on the left or the right. Per Soccerdonn...
