The unsurprising reason why Michael Olise has chosen Bayern Munich over Chelsea, Newcastle, and Man Utd

Chelsea, Manchester United, and Newcastle United were three powerful Premier League clubs interested in signing one of the league’s best attacking players, Crystal Palace breakout star Michael Olise.

Yet at the end of the day, as reported by top Premier League transfer insider David Ornstein, Olise has chosen a club outside the Premier League, as he is set to push Crystal Palace to agree to a 70 million euro transfer, per his release clause, to Bayern Munich.

Although Bayern did not win the Bundesliga for the first time since 2011/12, they reached the Champions League semifinals and will be in the Champions League next season.

Manchester United, Chelsea, and Newcastle all finished outside the top four and will not be competing in the Champions League. Chelsea were in sixth, Newcastle seventh, and Manchester United eighth.

Yet interestingly enough, despite finishing in their worst position of the Premier League era, Manchester United will play in the Europa League next season by virtue of beating rivals and Premier League champions Manchester City 2-1 in the FA Cup Final.

RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins reports that the main reason why Michael Olise has chosen to sign for Bayern Munich over staying in the Premier League with a bigger club is the fact that Bayern qualified for the Champions League and the others did not.

For most players, there isn’t much more important than the Champions League sporting-wise, as it is the marquee competition at the club level.

Alongside reigning champions Real Madrid and 2022/23 winners Manchester City, Bayern Munich are one of the Champions League title contenders in any given season.

Olise gives Bayern a 22-year-old right winger who has the potential to be world-class, as he scored 10 goals with 6 assists in the league last season despite injuries cutting his season to just 14 starts.

Chelsea, Newcastle, and Manchester United were all pining for Olise and all had a considerable need for a winger of his caliber as a scorer, creator, and progressor.
